Our Facilities

One of our objectives at Level2 is to provide offsite storage facilities for our customers that wouldn’t be economically feasible for most companies or individuals.   Building an infrastructure that is reliable, secure and physically safe isn’t just a goal, it is an absolute requirement with no room for error or cost cutting.   This is the heart of our service offering.

All data is hosted on tier 1 Dell, Compaq or IBM equipment ensuring stability and reliability of our services.  Our philosophy of providing the best possible service doesn’t allow us to use home made “white box” PCs, which are prone to failure, difficult to maintain and don’t meet software vendors compatibility tests.   Operating systems, firewalls and peripheral equipment are kept up-to-date by our trained engineers, staying on top of all required security fixes, patches and updates ensuring a secure environment which our customer have come to expect from Level2 Storage.

Our data hosting facilities lead the industry for round-the-clock physical security provided by electronic systems and security guards, high-tech fire detection and protection systems, power availability via UPSs and gererators, exceeding the standards set by leading enterprises. Our equipment is supported by a robust power architecture, unrivaled security and network access promising greater than 99.999% uptime. Every facility is environmentally controlled with redundant state-of-the-art air conditioning and humidity control systems. Automated alarm systems are tied to the environmental systems to ensure constant monitoring.
Our hosting centers provide you with access to your data 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.

Once backed up, your data will be mirrored in redundant data center facilities in different regions of the United States providing protection from hurricanes, earthquakes, extended power outages and other regional disasters.

Power

Designed using Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems and emergency backup diesel generators, our electrical distribution system powers the systems containing your data, even during a blackout.

UPS systems prevent power spikes, surges and brownouts. Redundant backup diesel generators prov1ide additional fuel to keep the data center powered in the event that public utility supply fails. The entire electrical system has built-in redundancy to guarantee continuous operation. The overall system is N+1 redundant, including each component within the parallel electrical systems.

Physical Security

Mission-critical Internet operations require the highest level security features, and Level2's data centers deliver multi-level physical security. All areas of the center are monitored and recorded using CCTV, all access points are controlled. Every data center is staffed with 24-hour security officers to augment physical security features, providing financial grade protection of your mission-critical data. All vistors are screened upon entry to verify their identity. Access history is recorded for audit by our security personnel.

Security Features

  • Center is manned by on-site security on a 24x365 basis.
  • All doors, including cages, are secured with biometric hand geometry readers.
  • Data Centers' exteriors are fully anonymous and have no windows.
  • CCTV digital camera coverage of entire center, including cages, with archival system.
  • All exterior walls are bullet resistant.
  • Entire perimeter bounded by concrete bollards/planters.
  • A silent alarm and automatic notification of appropriate law enforcement officials protect all exterior entrances.
  • CCTV integrated with access control and alarm system.
  • Motion-detection for lighting and CCTV coverage.
  • All equipment checked upon arrival.
  • Shipping and receiving area walled off from hosting areas.

Environment

All of Leve2's data centers are completely fitted with redundancy for precision HVAC, power and fire detection/suppression systems.

Redundant HVAC:

To provide optimum conditions for equipment operation and minimize downtime due to equipment failure, the HVAC system provides appropriate airflow, temperature and humidity. Redundancy features provide additional protection for system operations. Air-cooled package chillers arranged in N+1 redundancy configuration and backed up by generator supply is adopted to provide round-the-clock chilled water supply to the precision air conditioner units throughout our data centers.

Fire Detection and Suppressions:

Multi-zoned, dry pipe, water-based fire suppression system with sensory mechanisms (sniffers) to sample air and provide alarms prior to pressurization. Dual alarm (heat and/or smoke) activation necessary for water pressurization of system. Water only enters the fire suppression system in the event of two cross-zone alarms, and will only disperse in the event of a broken or melted sprinkler-head. Any water discharge will be sprinkler-head specific, which will limit the potential for damage caused by over-spray.

Flood Control:

Built above sea-level with no basements, tightly sealed conduits, moisture barriers on exterior walls, and dedicated pump rooms; drainage/evacuation systems; moisture detection sensors.

Earthquake:

Location-specific seismic compliance. Structural systems meet or exceed seismic design requirements of local building codes for lateral seismic design forces. In addition, equipment and nonstructural components, including cabinets, are anchored and braced in accordance with the requirements of the 1997 Uniform Building Code.
